Christmas Eve Eve (a Grey Rabbit Poem)
Christmas Eve Eve
The night the friends freeze
As they walk out into the winter breeze
through the festive crowds they weave
greeting each other with a friendly squeeze
…..
escaping the cold they bundle
through the festive doors they stumble
removing coats, hats, mittens and scarfs they juggle
tummy’s start to rumble
sitting for dinner they chuckle
more and more food they shovel
along with arrival of sweets, creams and crumble
the group start to struggle
to much food their belts unbuckle
extra sweets and treats they smuggle
…..
Together at last
They reminisce about the past
How had time flown so fast
They all agreed they had a blast
What are each of them doing now they ask
childhood friends they’re the perfect cast
discussing future dreams they wish to grasp
new year plans they craft
friends forever they laugh
…..
The hour is late
its time to skate
friends agree the party was great
for the taxi they wait
by the restaurant gate
travelling on the home straight
approaching their Hockley estate
they book their next date
…..
Christmas Eve Eve, a very special word
the day the friends gather as a herd
party together so absurd
the special date they all preferred
December 23rd.
