The Candyman Letters
To my friend Mr. Grey Rabbit
Greeting to you my dear fellow.
Firstly, I would like to apologise to you for the spelling on this envelope. I have recruited a part time administrator to help me with my correspondence. In truth he is normally only a temporary floor manager during the advent season whilst Nando takes his annual pilgrimage. I know what you are thinking. And you are right. Partridges are not known for their spelling. It’s a well known fact that all partridges are born with dyslexia. They an uncontrollable urge to double up single letters and type single letters when a double is required. However I am a kind hearted sole and our friend has fallen on hard times of recent. I’m helping out where I can. The pear tree, the partridge calls home has been infested by an energetic woodpecker. The poor partridge is spending a fortune on boarding up holes in his pear tree. Any way I am a proud ally of the postal services. I have good faith this will reach you.
This year I want my pen pall correspondence to be a 4d full senses experience. I hope you will enjoy.
I have got in touch with my good friend and chocolaty travel companion; The great Willy Wonka! I have asked his permission to use his wonderful composed music to assist in the immersive experience. Until he has provided permission to include music in my correspondence, please can I ask for you to listen to the following.
At the beginning before you dive In I would like to have the opportunity to set the tone and Wet your appetite. This will help you picture me in my cholate emporium in the heart of York city centre. These lyrics are truly my inspiration. ‘’… Who can take a sunrise (who can take a sunrise)
Sprinkle it with dew (sprinkle it with dew)
Cover it with chocolate and a miracle or two?
… Oh who can take tomorrow (who can take tomorrow)
Dip it in a dream (dip it in a dream)
Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream?
… The Candy Man (the Candy Man)
Oh, the Candy Man can (the Candy Man can)
The Candy Man can ’cause he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good (makes the world taste good)’’
Song by Sammy Davis Jr Willy Wonka & chocolate factory
……….Come with me and you’ll be
In a world of pure imagination
Take a look and you’ll see
Into your imagination
We’ll begin with a spin
Traveling in the world of my creation
What we’ll see will defy
Explanation
If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?
There’s nothing to it
There is no life I know
To compare with pure imagination
Living there, you’ll be free
If you truly wish to be
Song by Gene Wilder Willy Wonka & chocolate factory
I also enclose a taster of some of my candy work. I would ask you to kindly eat this whilst you read my letter.
Following these basic instructions will bring my letter to life. It will be as if we are sitting together by the fire drinking hot chocolate whilst our toes toast.
Best wishes
Henry Roundtree.
