The Postman Game- A Grey Rabbit Scout Adventure
Grey Rabbit took the paper.
Blue Rabbit took the post box.
Black Rabbit took the pens.
White Rabbit and Sandy Rabbit took nothing
nor did Royal Navy Rabbit.
The Bunny Scouts were playing;
chasing each other in the night air.
Items masked in jacket pockets,
Rabbits called ‘Bunny’s’.
Troop gathered by the dim emergency lit benches.
Blue Rabbit asked for quiet.
Black Rabbit split the Bunny’s into teams.
Blue Rabbit called out the game’s rules.
First the rabbits would scatter themselves across the field.
Second the Bunny’s would hunt for the paper
Thirdly take the paper and mark with a pen.
Finally, they post the paper
At nights end the count begins.
Winners decided by most posted.
The Hide.
Grey Rabbit went left,
Towards the hut.
Grey Rabbit leapt over the concrete Base.
Grey Rabbit Ducked under Camp Fox.
Grey Rabbit fell to the ground,
Rolled within a tree.
White Rabbit followed Grey,
Towards the hall she go,
Around the hut base
White Rabbit hopped up on the wall
Black Rabbit led Grey and White left.
Black Rabbit kept it simple.
Boots slinking in the night
Settling at Camp Squirrel
Back lent against an aging oak
Blue Rabbit, Sandy Rabbit ambled down
One settling in Upper,
the Other Lower.
Skirting mole hills
Avoiding grass dips
The pair silently surveyed the area
Eyes fixed on the bunny seek.
Royal Navy Rabbit went right
Uniform ironed
Army skills on point.
Down he crouched
Crawling deep into the undergrowth
A prickled bush tried to bite.
Through trousers they spiked.
Feeling the itch,
Navy Rabbit did not dare twitch.
And there he lay within the prickles, thorns, and clay
The Seek
The Bunny’s departed,
Headlights aglow
Search lighting the area
On the hunt they go.
Laughter echoed as they bustled
Bumping into mounds,
Falling into blind tyre tracks.
Screams and shouts of excitement,
when Rabbit found.
Moans of disappointment when;
Grey Rabbit remained allusive
The paper safe from Bunny bustle.
Waiting a while for bunny dispersal,
Grey Rabbit did a shuffle.
Slinking softly silently Grey Rabbit went.
Grey Rabbit rested on the emergency lit bench.
Screams of Joy as, Team Bunny’s held their papers.
Off they went the Game underway.
Grey Rabbit moved again,
Swapping paper on the way
As Bunny’s returned
Jokes probed Grey Rabbit.
‘Is it in your hat? ’claimed Louise
‘What about your scarf? From Barney
Where had the paper gone? Bunny’s thought
Grey Rabbit stood smirking by scout flag,
Navy Rabbit senses golden locating Grey Rabbit, giving Bunny’s the slip.
The End
All Bunny’s bundled together
The Post ballet was counted
Winners revealed.
Notices given
Bunny Parents assembled.
Bunny’s yawning
Bunny beds calling.
Grey, Blue, Black, White, Sandy crowded around Royal Navy.
Best wishes and hugs given,
For Navy Rabbit a submarine lay,
Awaiting his return from play.
Grey, Blue, Black, White and Sandy,
Waved goodbye to each other.
‘see you next week’ they called
Troop Night over, Bedtime called.
